What are the core classes of Artios Academy of Arts and History?
History, Literature/Grammar/Composition, Art, Music, and Theater are the five core classes of a complete Artios Academy of Arts and History program. When enrolling your student for the Academy of Arts and History, you are enrolling them in all five of these classes, which are taught in an integrated and comprehensive format.
What other classes are offered?
Additional classes offered vary based on your specific campus location. However, Artios Plus classes often include: Drama Club, Chorale, Art Club, Dance, Science, Math, private lessons, and foreign language. Some locations offer a variety of Conservatory-level classes such as: Graphic Design, Film Making, Drawing and Painting, Acting, Elements of Production, and many others.
What is the difference between the Academy of Arts and History, Artios Plus, and the Conservatory program?
The Academy of Arts and History
Artios Academy of Arts and History is a K-12th grade program with integrated exposure, by time period, to Music, Theatre, History, and the Arts. A time period Literature/Grammar/Composition is also part of the rotation at all of our 2.0 campuses.
The Conservatory
The Artios Conservatory is an intensive practicum in Music, Theatre, Visual Arts, Media Arts, Literary Arts, and Biblical worldview for homeschooled high school students. Students can choose a “major” and take classes following a designed college prep scope and sequence for that major. All majors begin with basic foundational courses and progress to specific major courses. An Artios Advanced Arts Education Diploma is awarded to Conservatory graduates. Students are invited to choose a major or to use Conservatory classes as electives. Hands-on applied learning and apprenticeship opportunities make this a great program for students discovering talents and mastering skills in the arts, with a consideration for a future in the arts as a ministry or profession.
Artios Plus
Artios Plus is a collection of various classes that are offered both before and after the main Academy of Arts and History and Conservatory programs. These classes are designed to enhance your child’s Artios experience. Classes and clubs are offered in Math, Science, Foreign Language, Music, Art, Film, Dance, and more. Please check with your local campus to find out what is available in your area.
How did Artios begin?
Artios began in 1999 in Gwinnett County, Georgia, under the leadership of Lori Lane. The Conservatory program was the first Artios program and was designed to meet the needs of her two oldest sons: one was interested in theater and the other interested in film. Because of her background in the arts, Lori knew exactly what she was looking for to meet the needs of her sons; however, she was not able to find a program in the Atlanta area that combined both excellence in instruction and a strong Biblical worldview of the arts. It was from this need that Artios Conservatory was born.
The Conservatory was followed by the Academy of Arts and History, designed with a specific arts scope and sequence that would build from year to year for her younger sons. Then the Preparatory program (with a focus on academics) was created to meet the needs of those parents who wanted to continue to homeschool through the middle and high school years, but needed a partner to do so.
Will I be required to teach?
No. Artios does not require parents to teach any classes, as some co-ops and other programs do. However, if parents have a desire and skill to teach, they are welcome to apply for a position with their local campus.
Do I need to stay on campus during school hours?
No. Although we have an open door policy for parents, you are not required to stay on campus during your child’s classes.
What kind of parent involvement is expected?
Parent involvement is highly valued. There are various opportunities throughout the year where you can assist Artios and help build a higher sense of community with the families enrolled. Parent involvement is welcome for planning activities, parties, setup and break down for events, field trips, promotional advertising, set building and painting, and more.
At the beginning of each year, you will receive a volunteer form — and we do ask that you volunteer for at least one activity throughout the year. However, the vast majority of our parents enjoy the Artios community so much, they volunteer for more.

I have a student with special needs: How will I know if Artios is a good fit for him/her?
This is a question that is best answered through a discussion with your local campus director. Because each student is individually and uniquely created by God, it will be important for this discussion to take place before making a decision about enrollment. However, we work with students on a regular basis who have a variety of learning disabilities and special needs.
How do I enroll?
Artios registration is handled online via your campus website. You can view the classes offered at your campus by going to your specific campus page and clicking on preview classes. Once you have selected your classes and finalized your registration, you will be contacted for an interview.
How do I drop a class?
Each campus has a class drop deadline. Please check with your local campus for this date. After that time, our faculty is hired and budgeting finalized for the school year. Once classes begin, per our tuition agreement, the full tuition is due.
If my student signs up for one class and doesn’t like it, can they switch?
Please keep in mind that often it takes more than just a couple of weeks for a student to get into the groove of a class and to feel comfortable with a particular teacher. However, if a switch is necessary, this is handled at the discretion of your campus director. Please speak directly with your local campus director should the need for a class change arise.
Does the Academy of Arts and History go through 12th grade, or does my student have to switch to conservatory?
Our History and English classes continue through high school, and other arts-related classes from the Conservatory program can be added to those classes to continue with the Artios liberal arts approach.
I’m new to homeschooling. What is the difference between Academy, Artios Plus, Preparatory, and Conservatory?

Will you sell, share, or give out my address information?
No. Your street address and email address are kept confidential. Many locations provide their families with a directory of families for that location. However, permission is asked before that is distributed, and the directory is only to be used for Artios-related activity.
Is my membership and application information kept confidential?
Absolutely!
Do you provide grades?
We provide feedback on your student’s progress for all ages. At the elementary level, we do not provide grades because we want the focus to be on a love for learning and individual progress versus just performance. During middle school, our students begin having grades and assessments, but these are designed to assess a variety of learning styles and do not simply include traditional testing. High school continues to build on the philosophy found in our elementary and middle school classrooms, teaching accountability, time management, and more. High school students do receive grades.
This is my first time homeschooling: Will someone show me what my days should look like the rest of the week on non-Artios days?
To start, there are two very important parent education videos that we ask you to watch: Getting the Most Out of Artios and Making Artios Work With and For Your Homeschool. These videos explain how to enter into the Artios program in an organized way and help you maximize your involvement with the program. When you register, you will receive a link to each of these online workshops. In addition, we have online workshops throughout the school year that help you in this area. Our campus directors and staff offer a variety of assistance in this area as well. All you have to do is ask!
If I have paid my fees and we move, lose employment, or have an illness, can we get a refund?
Our tuition agreement states that if a family loses employment, has a death in the immediate family, or moves 30 miles or more from their Artios location, they can request a tuition refund.
Can we participate in the Drama Club, Art Club, or Choir without being in the core classes?
The short answer is no: Our reason for this is the wholehearted approach to the teaching of your child. Although we have award-winning Theater, Art, and Music programs, and our graduates have received life-changing scholarships in these and other areas, our goal is not to just to teach Theater, Art, or Music to your child, or to train the next big “star.” We desire to teach the whole child and to teach to their heart. That is difficult to do when they only come for a performance-oriented class. In certain situation, exceptions may be made. However, that is left up to the discretion of the local campus director. Additional classes offered vary based on your specific campus location. However, Artios Plus classes often include: Drama Club, Chorale, Art Club, Dance, Science, Math, private lessons, and foreign language. Some locations offer a variety of Conservatory-level classes such as: Graphic Design, Film Making, Drawing and Painting, Acting, Elements of Production, and many others.
What does it mean to sign the photo release? Does that mean you can sell my student’s likeness?
This simply means that we have your permission to use your child’s likeness in one of our videos, brochures, or on social media as a representation of the Artios community. We do not sell any photos or videos taken.
